Damian James

January 25, 2010

Damian James is a baller.  His production is a huge reason the Longhorns earned their first-ever No. 1 ranking – even though Texas just lost two games.   The 6-foot-7 senior forward opted to stay in college this year and it has paid off in a big way. James is averaging a double-double with 17.3 points and 11 rebounds a game. He also contributes over a block and a steal per game.

James has been good when it counted the most. In back-to-back victories against North Carolina and Michigan State in December, James averaged 24 points, 14 rebounds and 2.5 steals. More recently, he amassed 26 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks as the Longhorns narrowly avoided being upset by Texas A&M.

Streetball.com Launches iPhone and iPod Touch Game Application Web site unveils state-of-the-art game for Basketball Fans

Portland, Oregon – Streetball.com today unveiled its new application for Apple’s iPhone and iPod touch bringing streetball instantly to the fingertips of enthusiasts worldwide through the premier game of its kind.

Users battle on an urban court, complete with background sounds of the surrounding city.

“With the release of Streetball for the iPhone and iPod touch, Streetball.com captures the attitude and feel of the neighborhood basketball courts and players from around the world,” said Greg Johnson, Streetball.com CEO.

The game, which costs $1.99, features 12 players with different stats and strengths including streetball legend and former NBA player Kenny Satterfield. Satterfield, known as “Serious Satellite” on the playground was drafted by the Dallas Mavericks from the University of Cincinnati and played for the Denver Nuggets and Philadelphia 76ers, as well as overseas in France, Greece, Venezuela and Lebanon.

Streetball has a quick on-court tutorial helping users to learn the game. Once they are ready to play, users can choose from four game play modes including Two-on-Two, First to 21, Multiplayer and H.O.R.S.E. In the first three games, users move around with a directional pad and tap buttons to pass or shoot. When shooting, an accuracy meter pops up for users to hold and then release the button at the right moment to sink the shot. Users can compete in the multiplayer mode using Bluetooth or WiFi. In the game of H.O.R.S.E., users match shots with the computer by tracing shapes with a finger in order to duplicate the opponent’s last shot.

Apple recently announced that more than two billion apps have been downloaded with more than 85,000 apps available to the more than 50 million iPhone and iPod touch customers worldwide. About Streetball.com
Portland, Oregon-based Streetball.com was born from the hearts of Ryan Mendez and David Moseley in 2006. Both were former standout guards at Stanford University who were part of its final four team in 1998. Their passion for basketball led them to start this online community. Their goal was to create a place online where those that love the game of basketball could connect with each other and express their love for the game in their own way. They also wanted to give youth an opportunity to learn more about online technology. Greg Johnson, former Marketing Director of Nike’s Jordan Brand, joined as CEO in the summer of 2009.

Mims

Mims

Mims is a New York Hip-Hop artist that recently released his sophomore album called Guilt.  His new song, Move (If You Wanna) is currently being played all over the country.  You might remember “This Is Why I’m Hot” which hit number 1 on Billboard’s Top 100.  The hip-hop anthem went from 32 the previous week all the way to the top marking the third-biggest jump in the chart’s history.

The single strode well past platinum, selling 1.6 million digital copies.  Additionally, figure in the 2.8 million cell phones ringing to the familiar beat.   Note also the gold digital sales of follow up single “Like This,” likewise off 2007 debut album Music Is My Savior.

With all the earmarks of superstardom and staying power, MIMS now offers his bubbling new single, the droning, driving “Move if You Wanna,” produced by Chicago’s Da Internz and appearing on sophomore album Guilt,  which released on April 7, 2009.

The numbers are deafening. But what do you really know of the man?  The monosyllabic swagger perfected on “This Is Why I’m Hot” doesn’t nearly convey the depth and introspection of the artist and the acronym that is MIMS.

In fact, he tells his own story with such aplomb that MIMS renders a traditional biography moot.  What follows is, in essence, the autobiography of MIMS.

MIMS on how he’s perceived: I’ll never regret doing “This Is Why I’m Hot,” because without it I’d never have the voice I have now.  I’ve achieved a point of success in hip-hop that not many of my peers can say they matched.  That said, people listened to that single and automatically decided and defined who MIMS is and what he brings.  Had they not used that song to define me, you’d never have heard any gripes that MIMS isn’t lyrical, or that MIMS is a one-hit wonder.  I wouldn’t have to defend my musical ability.  I did make a mistake on the first album, which was not giving enough insight into who I am.

People don’t know all the things I’ve studied in my life: DJing, engineering, production, mixing and mastering.  I took jazz classes, piano lessons, and acting lessons. All of that helps my creative process.  I will never limit myself.
